GENERAL INFORMATION
The Korle Klottey Mucipal Assembly registers two types of marriages. If you’re planning to get married at the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, here’s a quick guide to help you through the process.
1. Marriage Under Ordinance (CAP 127)
This is one of the most common forms of marriage. Here’s what you’ll need to do:
- Requirements:,
- Photocopies of valid ID cards (Ghana Card, Voter’s ID, Passport, etc.)
- If one party is absent, a signed consent letter is required.
- A Divorce Certificate is needed if either party has been married before.
- Foreigners must submit a Resident Permit and must have lived in Ghana for at least 14 days before registration.
- Steps for Registration:
- File a notice of marriage at least 21 days before signing the marriage certificate. You’ll need to provide your names, marital status, occupation, address, and fathers' details.
- After filing, your notice will be posted on the Assembly’s notice board to allow for any objections.
- If no objections are raised, your marriage can be registered on the scheduled date. Remember, if you don’t complete the process within three months, the license expires, and you’ll need to refile.
2. Customary Marriage (PNDCL 112)
This marriage is based on traditional customs and practices.
- Requirements:
- Names of the parties involved, photocopies of ID cards, and parents or family representatives' details.
- Place and date of marriage or dissolution, supported by a statutory declaration signed by the parents or family representatives.
- Steps for Registration:
- After submitting the notice, it will be posted for 28 days to allow any objections.
- Once the period passes without objections, the marriage (or dissolution) will be officially registered.
