KoKma Prosecutes 11 For Illegal Dumping In Ongoing Sanitation Enforcement Drive

Eleven (11) suspects have been arrested and arraigned before the La Magistrate Court for illegally dumping refuse at unauthorized locations within the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA).

The arrests were made as part of ongoing operations by the Assembly’s Environmental Health Department in collaboration with the Municipal Task Force to clamp down on indiscriminate waste disposal and enforce sanitation by-laws.

Out of the eleven suspects, ten pleaded guilty to the offense and were each sentenced to pay a fine of 60 penalty units, equivalent to GH₵720, or in default, serve ten (10) days in prison custody. The remaining suspect, who pleaded not guilty, was granted bail and is expected to reappear before the court on 6th August 2025.

The Municipal Environmental Health Officer reiterated KoKMA’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a clean, healthy, and environmentally sustainable municipality. He further cautioned that similar enforcement exercises will be intensified in all electoral areas.

The Assembly is calling on residents to support this initiative by using only approved waste collection services and designated disposal sites. Community members are also encouraged to report sanitation violations through established complaint channels.

These legal actions underscore KoKMA’s broader agenda to promote environmental cleanliness, safeguard public health, and strengthen urban resilience in line with national waste management regulations.
