The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) and Peoples' Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba (RUDN University) have held high-level talks in Moscow to deepen cooperation on capacity-building initiatives, especially in the fields of sustainable urban development, waste management, and digital governance.
The strategic meeting was held at the RUDN University’s Institute of Environmental Engineering, under the moderation of Institute Director, Prof. Elena Savenkova.
In his welcome address, Anatoly Kirichuk, Vice Rector for Economic Activities, emphasized the university’s role as a global hub for knowledge exchange:
“RUDN University continues to build educational bridges between continents. This partnership affirms our joint mission to empower cities through education, innovation, and sustainability.”
On behalf of the Assembly, Hon. Alfred Allotey-Gaisie, Municipal Chief Executive of Korle Klottey, thanked RUDN for the opportunity and reaffirmed KoKMA’s readiness to build resilient, smart, and sustainable communities:
“We are positioning Korle Klottey as a municipal model for West Africa—one where innovation and learning guide urban transformation.”
The event featured a technical presentation by Anna Popkova, Deputy Director for International Affairs, who highlighted KoKMA–RUDN’s flagship programs on waste recycling, circular economy, carbon footprint reporting, and smart city systems.
As part of the expanded collaboration, this year’s capacity-building training course will focus on five key areas: digital building administration, waste management in urban areas, Greenhouse Gas management for urban sustainability, smart city systems based on spatial data, and environmental engineering in construction. These modules are designed to strengthen the technical competencies of KoKMA personnel and support the Assembly’s efforts to build a modern, data-driven, and sustainable urban management system.
