The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has confirmed that more than 3,000 people have been affected by severe flooding following a downpour at Odawna Sahara in the Greater Accra Region.
According to a report by JoyNews correspondent James Avedzi, torrential rains that triggered severe flooding across parts of Accra on Sunday, May 18, 2025, have left scores of residents displaced, with homes and businesses submerged under water.
Speaking to JoyNews, the Director of NADMO for the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, Mr Hendrick Noble Kinnah, attributed the scale of the flooding in part to poor waste disposal practices and outlined measures to prevent future occurrences.
He confirmed that over 3,000 households have been affected by recent floods in the Odorna Sahara area, following heavy rainfall that hit parts of the capital earlier this week.
“In the report, there will be a Sister City programme so that they will also make sure the accredited companies around their area will also be on board,” Mr Kinnah said. “They will also make sure they collect refuse from households so that they will not put it in the gutter to reach here.”
In other parts of the Greater Accra region, the rains claimed several lives.
