The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) has hosted a vibrant celebration of the Homowo Festival to showcase and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Ga-Dangme people.
The event featured an exhibition of traditional garments and a lively food bazaar, offering staff and participants an immersive experience of Ga-Dangme customs and culinary traditions.
Central to the celebration was the historical significance of Homowo, which commemorates the Ga-Dangme people’s triumph over famine. Attendees enjoyed a variety of authentic festival dishes, including the popular kpoikpoi served with palm nut soup, underscoring the essential role of food in the Homowo tradition.
Through this initiative, KoKMA reaffirmed the importance of cultural events in safeguarding indigenous traditions, fostering unity, and educating the public on the unique heritage of the Ga-Dangme people.
Speaking at the event, the Municipal Chief Executive of KoKMA, Hon. Alfred Allotey-Gaisie, commended staff for their enthusiastic participation and emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to promoting cultural values alongside development.
“The Homowo Festival is not just a celebration of our history but a reminder of the resilience and unity of the Ga-Dangme people. As an Assembly, we believe that preserving our cultural heritage is as important as driving progress in infrastructure, education, and social development. By celebrating Homowo together, we strengthen our identity and pass on these values to future generations,” the MCE noted.
