Korle Klottey MCE, MP Urge Discipline at Handover of Community Assistants

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly Hon. Alfred Allotey-Gaisie has officially handed over a batch of Community Police and Fire Service Assistants to the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service within the Municipality.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, the Hon. Alfred Allotey-Gaisie described the initiative, championed by the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), as “a commendable and practical response to two pressing national needs: creating sustainable employment opportunities for young people, and enhancing public safety, security, and community resilience.”

The programme, he said, provides young people not only with jobs but also with valuable skills, discipline, and a sense of civic duty.

“As Community Police Assistants, you are to support the Ghana Police Service in maintaining law and order and strengthening the bond of trust between the public and the police. As Fire Service Assistants, you will complement the efforts of the Ghana National Fire Service in prevention, education, and rapid response to emergencies,” he told the beneficiaries.

The MCE urged the newly deployed assistants to be punctual, respectful, and committed, stressing that the trust reposed in them by the State and their communities “must not be taken lightly.”

He reiterated the Assembly’s vision of youth empowerment, noting that when young people succeed, the entire Municipality prospers.

Commending the government for the initiative, the MCE paid tribute to President John Dramani Mahama, saying his “visionary leadership” gave birth to the Community Protection and Fire Service Assistants programme as a practical solution to unemployment.

“Through this programme, President Mahama has not only created a pathway for our young people to secure meaningful employment, but has also laid a firm foundation for skills development, discipline, and national service,” he said.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, also addressed the gathering, offering strong advice to the newly deployed personnel. She cautioned them against lateness, absenteeism, and indiscipline, urging them to exhibit professionalism in their work.

“This opportunity is not just about earning a wage, but about service to community and country. You must demonstrate discipline, punctuality, and commitment at all times. Any form of indiscipline will undermine the very trust that the public and the State have placed in you,” she stressed.

She encouraged the beneficiaries to see the programme as a stepping stone to greater opportunities and urged the security commands to provide the necessary guidance and mentorship.

The ceremony concluded with the official handover of the assistants to their respective Commands, with both the MCE and the MP expressing confidence that their contributions would strengthen the security and safety of the Municipality.
