Mr Solomon Armah, a 44-year-old fisherman with 25 years of experience in fishing has won the overall best farmer at the Farmers Day celebration held at the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly on 8th November 2024.
He was awarded with various items including a certificate of honour, a deep freezer, wax prints, aluminium pans, field boots and others.
Other awardees included Mr Isaac Sackitey Kodji (Best Crop Farmer), Madam Eunice Dowuona (Best Livestock Farmer), Madam Sarah Nartey (Best Fish Processor), Abraham Asudam (Best Agricultural Worker), and the Best Municipal Market was the Tema Station Market.
This year’s Farmers Day celebration marked the 5th edition for Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly and the 40th edition for Ghana since it was instituted in 1985. It had the theme "Building Climate Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security”.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Nii Adjei Tawiah congratulated the hardworking farmers and fisherfolks who he said their importance the Municipality and Ghana at large cannot be underestimated.
“It is through your effort that we are able to feed the growing population of our country. “I wish to commend and appreciate our partners and stakeholders for your participation in this 40th National Farmers’ Day,” he acknowledged.
The MCE said it is undeniable fact that agriculture is the main source of livelihood for many Ghanaians, which the people of Korle Klottey are not an exception.
“I want to use this occasion to encourage, especially the youth and others who are interested in urban farming to venture into backyard and organic farming which does not require the use of chemicals and big size of land”, he added.
Hon. Nii Adjei Tawiah assured that, his administration is poised to support the youth and any investor in this direction to make the Municipality the hub of building climate resilient agriculture for sustainable food security.
The Adabraka Mantse who chaired the occasion mentioned in his closing remarks how pleased he was with the work of the awarded farmers and encouraged them to continue with the good they are doing and aim higher. He also urged those did not win to put in more effort and probably they could be winners next year.
