KoKMA Inaugurate Newly Elected Assembly Members and Government Appointees

The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) has inaugurated newly elected Assembly members and government appointees to fast-track and foster development of the municipality.

The event was also in fulfilment of Article 35 clause (d) the 1992 constitution which enjoins the state to promote decentralization and popular participation in governance by affording all possible opportunities to citizenry to participate in decision making at all levels of government.

The brief meeting was chaired by Professor Samuel Nii Odai from Accra Technical University whiles the president representative was Honorable Justice Georgina Theodora Wood, member of the council of state and retired chief justice of the republic of Ghana.

In his welcoming address the Municipal Chief Executive Honorable Samuel James Nii Adjei Tawiah welcomed all elected assembly members and government appointees as stakeholders of the municipality.

He urged them to make constructive and meaningful contributions thereby helping in the development of the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly. He announced that, the Assembly was adjudged the best assembly in 2022 on the district league table comprising of 261 Metropolitan Municipal and District Assembly (MMDAs) in the country. he mentioned some of the ambitious project which are still ongoing, which include construction of a three (3) story office complex for Osu zonal council which is 70% complete and a three (3) story office complex for Adabraka zonal council of which is also 65% complete. Other project like the construction of stores at Tema station and construction of 2 story library and computer lab at Accra High School completed.

His Excellency, the president representative, Honorable Justice Georgina Theodora Wood on behalf of the president explained the functions of the district assemblies as provided by the constitution which included the formal formulation and execution of plans, programmes, and strategies for effective mobilization of resources for the overall development of the assembly. She also mentioned that deepen decentralization and making the people feel government is closer and their opinions are well respected.

Retired chief justice Theodora Wood advised assembly members both elected and appointed to be part of the team that will finally change the status -quo and deepen local governance and decentralization process in KoKMA in order to enable the citizens have access to basic public service in the municipality rather than demanding such service from elsewhere. she concluded by wishing them a successful tenure and formally declared Korle Klottey municipal assembly inaugurated.

In his closing remark, the chairman of the occasion Professor Samuel Odia urged assembly members to remember that they have being called to serve, therefore they have to do and give their best to their elected areas.

On the government appointee, Professor Odai advise them to support the assembly with ideas in order to promote good governance.
