Familiarization Tour by KoKMA and Ministry of Transport To Osu Fish Landing Site


For effective and rapid monitoring of government flagship program in order to meet the actual timeline and restore life and economic activities to normalcy, the Ministry of Transport and Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly has paid a working visit to Osu beach landing site to ascertain and interact with fisher folks and other stakeholder on the progress of work.

The visit is to monitor and inspect the progress of work at Osu fish landing beach and to perform an impact assessment of the project, interact and seek opinions and views of the local residents and the fisher folks

Ministry of Transport was led by the deputy minister of Transport Honourable Hassan Tampuli while Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly was led by the Municipal Coordinating Director Mr. Emmanuel Baisie

Mr Hassan Tampuli appealed to fisher-folks and residents living around the construction site of the Osu Fishing landing project to give maximum cooperation to the contractors to facilitate early completion.

Deputy Ministry enumerate the benefit of having a lading beach site, adding that, the development of the fish landing site is aimed at ensuring safe launching and landing of artisanal fishing and canoes in particular.

Again, fishing landing site are designed to create and maintain a hygienic environment for the processing and handling of fish in order to meet it value standard

Also, landing sites would help in preventing and minimizing post-harvest losses. Besides, the sites would help in adding value to the fish caught by artisanal fishermen.

The deputy minister added that through the landing site project, employment opportunities within Osu especially the catchment area will increase which will transform loverhood of the community.

The Deputy Minister of Transport charged the contractor to respect the local content part of the contract and ensure that some of the workers were engaged from the respective communities to provide direct and indirect jobs for the youth in those areas.

On his part, the chief fisherman for Osu Alata, Nii Djamlodja VI appeal to the government through the Transport Ministry to consider the any suggestion by the indigenous in order for a smooth project procedure.

He also commended the Transport Ministry for daily and timely engagement of the community which has help the entire community to have a clear understanding of the project and it beneficial to the Osu community and its environs.     

Presiding member Honourable fancies Ebo Mensah, thanked the ministry of transport, chief fisherman and the fisher-folks for support to government initiative while cautioning them to desist from any acts that would hinder the smooth execution of the project because korle Klottey Municipal Assembly is stirred about the project since it would come along with many positive prospects such as jobs for the community and municipal-wide, and other indirect income generating activities for the residents especially the youth.

Osu fish beach landing project is being executed by the China Harbour and Engineering Company, and when completed will provide the community with modern-day fish market, a net mending hall, a day care centre, toilet facilities, an administration building, washrooms, an ice-making plant, a cold store, a workshop, car park and a premix fuel station.
