The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly says it has mapped out detailed plans in preparation for the expected rains this year.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Adjei Tawiah said apart from creating awareness through the municipal National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) office, it had also embarked on the desilting of the drains in the municipality especially the Odaw drains.
He acknowledged the efforts of the central government in the desilting and dredging of the drains across the capital of which KoKMA has been a beneficiary.
Furthermore, he stated that plans were in place to secure a safe haven for people in anticipation of any circumstances such as floods despite the elaborate preventive steps carried out.
The MCE also shared his frustrations with the recurrent issue of flooding that plagues the capital annually.
He attributed this to the persistent indiscipline on the part of the people especially in cases such as dumping of refuse into drains and building on water ways despite continuous education and awareness creation.
He stressed that as an assembly KoKMA would also persist in prosecuting all those who deliberately discard the bylaws to serve as a deterrent to others.
