The fourth edition of ‘’Light Up the City for Christmas’’ has been launched in Accra with the aim of beatifying the city for the yuletide.
Light Up the City is an initiative to spark and light up most of Ghana’s ceremonial streets within Korle Klottey Municipality Assembly (KoKMA) which will usher city dwellers into the festive season.
It is a collaboration between Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly and other Assemblies, and it was powered by Jandel Ltd, MullenLowe Accra, BTL Africa and other corporate bodies. The 2022 edition had the theme ‘’Tis the season to sparkle’.
The Greater-Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey said, the Light Up the City 2022 would enhance the Christmas celebrations as a high point for the festive season and bring excitement within the city.
He urged everyone to make it a responsibility to sensitise and educate one another whiles also employing all MMDAs across the country to ensure strict enforcement of the relevant by-laws during this period.
Hon. Henry Quartey humbly appealed to everyone to be careful when plying the roads and observe all traffic regulations and be mindful of pedestrians and other users of our roads. ‘’We do not want accidents on our roads as we celebrate the yuletide’’, he added.
Hon. Nii Adjei Tawiah, Municipal Chief Executive for Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly said, the project would promote Ghana globally and help in redefining Accra as Africa’s Art Centre. He also encouraged other corporate bodies to come on board by supporting this initiative so that the project can be extended to other regions.
The Executive Chairperson of Jandel Ltd, Madam Afi Amoro said, Christmas brings with it the joy of brightening other people’s lives, putting a sparkle in their eyes and a smile on their faces. Let not our fears about the state of the global economy and commercial implications thereof influence our ability to experience and spread joy this Christmas.
‘’This is the reason why we are passionate about this year’s event. It is time to lift spirit and focus on what matters the most that is loving our families and friends and giving to others who have none,’’ she added.
In her conclusion remarks, Madam Afi thanked the supporting Municipalities especially the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly and the corporate bodies in Ghana who have also played a part in bringing joy to their cherished customers and the society at large by supporting this event.
The Light Up Accra project is supported by Ecobank, FBN Bank, Access Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Enterprise Group, Republic Bank, KGL, Stanbic Bank, Qualiplast, Hollard Insurance, Melcom, Duraplast and MTN
The Light Up the City will end on 9th January 2023.
