OSU ASHANTE CLAN WINS KoKMA HOMOWO QUIZ COMPETITION

As part of the measures to revive and showcase the rich culture and traditions of the Ga people, management of the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly in collaboration with Osu and Adabraka traditional council organized a Ga quiz competition for the youth within the municipality.

The event seeks to revive the Ga language and also to test the knowledge of the youth on the Ga-Dangme culture, customs and values.

In all a total number of seventy (70) participants attended the program, thirty-eight (38) were male and thirty-two (32) were female. The contesting clans were; Osu Ashante, Osu Anerhor, Osu Kinka-we, Adjabeng and Tudu. The programme was attended by supporters from the contestants, Media Houses, Committee Members, staff of the Assembly and the General Public.

The quiz competition had four segments; the first segment involved the history behind the celebration of Homowo, the second was on rite of passage (Naming Ceremony, Puberty Rite, Marriage and Funeral Rite). The third was on general knowledge of the Assembly and spellings and the last segment was on traditions and customs of the Ga people.

Each contestant was awarded a medal, certificate of participation while the first position was presented with a gold medal, a cash prize and a cup. The second position was awarded a silver medal and a cash prize while the third position was also awarded with a bronze medal and a cash prize. The other contestants were also given a cash prize
