The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey in an effort to make Greater Accra Region the cleanest city has held a joint-effort Storm Drain Clean up Exercise with the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly and the Four Municipal Assemblies in Ayawaso i.e., East, Central, West and North.
In his open remarks before the Clean-up Exercise, Hon. Henry Quartey elaborate the need of making Accra work again by setting the Capital City as an example to other cities and towns in the country.
He challenged the four Municipal Assemblies to tackle sanitation issues with all the necessary attention and the possibility when the need arises because it is the vision of President Akufo-Addo to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa.
The Exercise started from the Storm Drain at Kawukudi Junction through Nima and its environs via Paloma Hotel to Asylum Down and finally at the Odaw Storm Drain at Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
Hon. Nii Adjei Tawiah, Korle Klottey Municipal Chief Executive welcomed the idea for the joint Clean up Exercise which will help in addressing sanitation challenges within his jurisdiction.
"Am particularly happy for this Clean up Exercise because most at times, Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly is always at the receiving end of waste material which sometimes flow from the 3 Ayawaso Municipalities." Said Hon. Nii Adjei Tawiah.
Hon. Nii Adjei Tawiah urged Ghanaians to see sanitation as "National call to duty" which need all of us as Ghanaians to tackle with one mind and direction.
The Municipal Chief Executive for the Ayawaso Central Hon. Mohammed Quaye revealed that the exercise is part of an initiative to help government achieve its target to rid the city of filth.
Municipal Chief Executives from North, East and West Ayawaso Assemblies, lauded the Regional Minister’s swift effort for the massive clean of the Storm Drain that runs through the five municipalities and called for a regular joint exercise.
Aside staffs from Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly, Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly, Ayawaso North, Ayawaso Central and NADMO, the Security Agencies i.e., Fire Service, Prisons Service, Police Service, Immigration Service, Armed Forces and National Security all helped in the Thursday morning Clean Up agenda aimed at "making Accra work again".
